Sentinel® Spectrum® chewables for dogs provides protection against heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, fleas and tapeworms. The beef and bacon flavored soft-chew is readily accepted by dogs six weeks of age or older. Easy to feed; administer once a month after or with a normal meal to ensure adequate absorption. The active ingredients in Sentinel® Spectrum® are Milbemycin Oxime, a proven Heartworm preventative; Lufenuron, which stops fleas from becoming adults; and Praziquantel, effective against tapeworms (Taenia pisiformis, Echinococcus multilocularis and Echinococcus granulosus), roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum) and whipworms (Trichuris vulpis). Sentinel® Spectrum® contains six chews per package and is available in four strengths formulated according to the weight of the dog. Each chewable flavored tablet is formulated to provide a minimum of 0.23 mg/lb (0.5 mg/kg) of Milbemycin Oxime, 4.55 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) of Lufenuron, and 2.28 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) of Praziquantel. For easy identification, each strength is packaged using a different color:
Orange: 2-8 lb
Green: 8.1-25 lb
Yellow: 25.1-50 lb
Blue: 50.1-100 lb
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Dogs should be tested for heartworm prior to use. Mild hypersensitivity reactions have been noted in some dogs carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae. Treatment with fewer than 6 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. For complete product information refer to the product insert.

For use in dogs six weeks of age and older and over two pounds of body weight. Choose the package that matches the dog's weight. Administer soft-chew immediately after or with a normal meal. Sentinel® Spectrum® may be offered to the dog by hand or added to a small amount of dog food. The chewable tablet should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. The chewable may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed a few minutes after administration to ensure that no part of the dose is lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, re-dosing is recommended.
Sentinel® Spectrum® must be administered monthly for at least six months after exposure to mosquitoes. Dogs should be tested for heartworm prior to use. See full product insert.
Toxicology:
Well tolerated at the veterinarian's recommended dosage.
Side Effects:
The following adverse reactions have been reported in dogs after administration of Milbemycin Oxime, Lufenuron, or Praziquantel: vomiting, depression/lethargy, pruritus, urticaria, diarrhea, anorexia, skin congestion, ataxia, convulsions, salivation, and weakness.
There are no known contraindications to the use of Sentinel® Spectrum®.
The safety of Sentinel® Spectrum® has not been evaluated in dogs used for breeding or in lactating females.
Warnings:
Do not use in puppies less than six weeks of age and less than two pounds of body weight.
Prior to administration of Sentinel® Spectrum®, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms. Sentinel® Spectrum® is not effective against adult D. immitis. Mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions manifested as labored breathing, vomiting, salivation and lethargy have been noted in some dogs treated with Milbemycin Oxime carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae. These reactions are presumably caused by release of protein from dead or dying microfilariae.
Precautions:
Sentinel® Spectrum® should be administered at monthly intervals beginning within one month of the dog's first seasonal exposure to mosquitoes and continuing until at least six months after the dog's last seasonal exposure Sentinel® Spectrum® may be administered year-round without interruption. When switching from another Heartworm preventative product to Sentinel® Spectrum®, the first dose of Sentinel® Spectrum® should be given within a month of the last dose of the former product.
Flea Treatment and Prevention with Sentinel® Spectrum® may begin at any time of the year, preferably starting one month before fleas become active and continuing monthly through the end of flea season. In areas where fleas are common year-round, monthly treatment with Sentinel® Spectrum® should continue the entire year without interruption.
To minimize the likelihood of flea re-infestation, it is important to treat all animals within a household with an approved flea protection product, as necessary.
Dogs may be exposed to and can become infected with roundworms, whipworms, hookworms, and tapeworms throughout the year, regardless of season or climate.
Clients should be advised of appropriate measures to prevent reinfection of their dog with intestinal parasites. Because the pre-patent period for E. multilocularis may be as short as 26 days, dogs treated at the labeled monthly intervals may become re-infected and shed eggs between treatments.
Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Disposal of Unused Prescription Medications
- Return unwanted or unused medications to Revival Animal Health in person, or visit www.disposemymeds.org to find a pharmacy near you.
- A secondary method of drug disposal is to remove the unwanted medication from any wrappers or containers and place it in a plastic bag with moist coffee grounds or cat litter. This can be disposed of in the regular garbage collection.
- Please do NOT dispose of unwanted meds down the drain or toilet, as this may eventually find its way into the human water supply.
Learn more about disposal of unused prescription medications here.
Disposal of Medical Sharps
- When you're finished with the syringe and needle, do not try to recap, remove, bend or break the needle. This is where most injuries occur.
- Dispose the syringe and needle immediately in a nearby sharps container. All sharps must be deposited in a puncture-proof container. Make sure your storage location is child and animal proof.
- As with all product handling, make sure you wash your hands after handling medical sharps.
Disposal of Sharps Container
- When your sharps container is half-full, sift dry Portland Cement throughout the sharps. Fill the container with water, and rotate until the cement is mixed and the sharps have been distributed throughout the cement mixture. Let cement dry for 24 hours.
- Seal the lid of the container tightly and use duct tape to seal. Label the container "Livestock Sharps" to properly identify the contents.
- Dispose of the containers in accordance with your state's regulations.
